Only cars, taxis and buses with permits can drive into the city centre. Siena’s historic centre is a ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone)

If you prefer a slightly calmer Florence experience, it is worth bearing in mind that the summer months will be heaving with tourists. Spring and autumn are great times to visit, the weather more pleasant, making it more enjoyable to wander around.
Florence is a maze of one-way streets and pedestrian zones, if driving into the centre areas there are ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones) and also city charges are applied.
