Siena
With its medieval heritage Siena is one of the most charming and captivating places to visit. Whilst on holidays in Gaiole in Chianti it is worth making a day trip to Siena. Only an hour’s drive away Siena offers wonderful Sienese cuisine, museums, parks & gardens, alongside markets and festivals. Weave your way around the city through one of the many winding streets that offer beautiful views. Siena is also revered for its elegant medieval buildings and the town itself is a World Heritage Site.
At the heart of the city you will encounter the extensive Piazza del Campo which is lined with many cafés. The renowned and historic “Palio” bareback horserace event takes place twice yearly.
Florence
Florence is a place like no other, for such a small city it is brimming with some of the world’s most famous works of art. According to UNESCO, Florence is home to approximately one third of the worlds art treasures. An enchanting place, that emanates an age-old romanticism. It is a city that offers unforgettable experiences, that will last in your memories. The city is a hustle and bustle of culture, art, restaurants and shopping streets. It is worth spending some time to enjoy all of what this city has to offer. Every turn offers some wonderful church, monument, market or piazza.
Pay a visit to the Duomo, Wander through the side streets where you will come across delicious “Gelaterie”. Florence is home to some of the best gelaterias in Italy. If you prefer a slightly calmer Florence experience, it is worth bearing in mind that the summer months will be heaving with tourists. Spring and autumn are great times to visit, the weather more pleasant, making it more enjoyable to wander around.
